Located at an altitude of 957 m above sea level, the Hoysala Village Resort, in Hassan, Karnataka is 194 km from Bangalore, 60 km from Mysore, 120 km from Mangalore. Easily accessible, one can cruise down the well-maintained Bangalore-Mangalore highway to reach the resort. The breezy, cool and pleasant picturesque town of Hassan is located in the heart of the Malanad region which was made famous by the Hoysala Dynasty with its unique style of architecture.
The town’s outskirts are dominated mainly by farmlands, at patches of forest and lakes. For its expansive sunflower fields, Hassan is known all over as the ‘land of the sunflower’.
Hassan is also an important landmark in the tourism map of Karnataka. It has rich history and heritage. The resort is a perfect stop-over to explore several important attractions in and around Hassan like Belur, Halebidu, Shravanabelagola, Manzarabad fort, Shettyhalli Church and Backwater, Bisle Ghat, Doddagaddavalli, Koramangala, Mosale and Gorur.
Belur was the early capital of the Hoysala Empire. The main attraction in Belur is the Chennakeshava temple complex which contains the Chennakeshava Temple as the centre piece, surrounded by the Kappe Chennigraya temple built by Shantaladevi, queen of king Vishnuvardhana. This is located at approximately 45 minutes drive time from the resort.
Halebidu was the 12th century capital of the Hoysalas. The Hoysaleswara temple was built during this time by Ketamala and attributed to Vishnuvardhana, the Hoysala ruler. It enshrines Hoysaleswara and Shantaleswara, named after the temple builder Vishnuvardhana and his wife, Queen Shantala.
Chikmagalur City takes its name from the word “Chikkamagala Uru” which literally means younger daughter’s town (in Kannada). Situated in a fertile valley south of the Baba-Budan hill range it is a nature-lover’s delight. The town enjoys a salubrious climate and has venerated monuments of all religions- Kodandarama temple a synthesis of Hoysala and Dravidian styles of architecture, Jamia Mosque and the new St.Joseph’s Cathedral. It is also famous for coffee and is known as the ‘coffee land’ of Karnataka and is a must visit for any person visiting the region. This picturesque town is just one hour drive time from the resort.

It is one of the most important Jain pilgrim centers. In Kannada language, “Bel” means white and “kola”, the pond, an allusion to the beautiful pond in the middle of the town. The 58-feet tall monolithic statue of Gomateshwara is located on Vindyagiri Hill. It is considered to be the world’s largest monolithic stone statue. Located at a distance of 50 kms from Hassan it takes approximately 45 minutes to reach.

Manjarabad Fort is situated about 30 Kms from Hoysala resort and it is visited by a large number of tourists throughout the year. Set at a height of about 3,240 ft. above sea level, this fort is supposed to have been built during the reign of Tipu Sultan. It is constructed out of stones and mud and it has chambers all around. This Fort served as a strategic defensive location during Tipu Sultan’s rule as it commands the approach to the plateau beyond Sakleshpur from the coast. It is also believed that there is a tunnel that connects the Manjarabad Fort to another fort in Srirangapattana near Mysore.

The Rosary Church at Shettihalli, near Hassan in Karnataka was built by French Missionaries in 1860. The village of Shettihalli had to be relocated due to the construction of the Hemavathy Reservoir but the Rosary Church got submerged and this is what remains of the church. Strangely, the waters have depleted its structure but not the peace and serenity of the place. This is one place that is a true photographer’s delight.
Around 5 km from Bisle towards Kukke Subramanya there is a beautiful spot called Bisle Betta or Bisle View Point. From here one can see the mountain ranges of 3 districts: Kumara Parvatha (1319 m) of Dakshina Kannada district, Puspha Giri (1712 m) and Dodda Betta (1119 m) of Coorg district and Patta Betta (1112 m) and Enni Kallu (900 m) of Hassan district. The highlight of this point is the view of the valley, with the Giri River in the foreground. A shelter has been erected here by the Forest Department so that one can enjoy the view.

The main attraction of this small village is the Lakshmi Devi temple. It was built by the Hoysalas in the year 1114 CE during the rule of king Vishnuvardhana. The temple is situated amidst pristine coconut plantations and has a lake at its rear which adds to the scenic beauty.
Gorur is located around 22 km from Hassan and the place has a dam that is built across Hemavathy River. This dam forms a reservoir which is named Hemavathi Reservoir and makes a great place for a picnic. Kumaraparvatha Kumara parvatha is second highest peak in Coorg district (Karnataka state) after Tadiandamol peak.One can trek up the peak and .The starting point of the trekking route is Kukke Subramanya which takes approximately 45 minutes drive time from the resort.
