The Floating Church by the Backwaters of the River Hemavati

Famously known as the Floating Church, this captivating historical site in Hassan was built in the 1860s by French missionaries and showcases stunning Gothic architecture. Originally located on the prosperous banks of the River Hemavati, it was abandoned after the construction of the Gorur Dam in 1960. During the summer months, when water levels recede, you may be lucky enough to see the church ruins and even walk inside them. However, the church often remains submerged due to seasonal monsoons. Today, it stands as a hauntingly beautiful relic, offering a glimpse into the region's rich history and architectural heritage.
